Screen shot 2012-01-04 at 19.14.35 In 1991 we continued working with Roland DG Corporation, from a previous company, on their cutting machines, this rapidly progressed and Roland appointed us as one of just four CAMM Centres in the British Isles. Naturally, Roland insisted on high standards of product knowledge, training and support --- this accelerated us to the level of "Roland Premier Solution Providers" to supply both the retail and educational markets. As well as being one of the UK's leading experts in the Roland CAMM range, with a thorough knowledge of the associated software, we were the only UK "Roland Premier Solution Providers " which specialised on the Apple Macintosh platforms, as well as solutions for Microsoft Windows.
With more and more CAD based solutions becoming available we needed a method of capturing 3D data and in 1995 Immersion Corporation released the MicroScribe3D affordable digitising arm that worked on both Mac and PC applications. In 1996 we became Immersions UK premier partner for the UK and stand to be one of their longest serving solution providers. Now the MicroScribe is under new owners and looks to be a continuing device for affordable desktop digitising.
In 1998 we became a beta tester of Rhinoceros CAD as there was plans to integrate the MicroScribe interface which took some time. We became authorised Rhino resellers in 2000 and continue to be so with McNeel Europe.
2003 saw a major change in the market for us with Roland products, as Roland DG UK Ltd decided to sell direct to the end user. July 1st 2003, Roland DG (UK) Ltd, appointed us as their exclusive consultants for the range of Roland Premier 3D products within the UK. To compliment the new Roland Direct sales there is a new 3D showroom based in Slough, which has now moved to Aldershot, with all the Roland 3D equipment on show and ready for us to arrange an appointment to see the products you want. With this in place you the client gets the best of both worlds with years of product knowledge and manufactures support, and support is key to any solution we provide. We are really pleased to be part of the Roland DG UK team and look forward to your continued business.

RSI GMBH developed the MicroScan-3D laser for the MicroScribe in 2005 and we immediately added this to our portfolio of solutions, to become RSI's UK distributors. The MicroScan opened up a lot of opportunities for the customers who could not afford the larger systems, especially in the sculptural, medical, footware markets and areas of geology and paleontology.

Mayka from Picasoft France. Before we started Patrick Thorn & Co, we were friends and business colleagues with the former company TechSoft SA France, where Maquette Volume evolved for the designer who needed cutting software to make prototypes on milling machines. We have worked closely with all concerned with development and now the product has evolved as Mayka to be one of our major solutions for the subtractive rapid prototyping market. Since we began in 1991 we have supplied over 500 licences, excluding educational lab packs, to both commercial and educational establishments.

2009 We found customers have a need for digitising and measuring large structures at a reasonable accuracy at a very affordable price. To fill these requirements we are please to be appointed UK distributor for QualUp SAS of France the producers of the photogrammetry solutions RhinoPhoto (Plugin to Rhino3D) and Pixdim (plugin for Googel Sketchup v7).
We feel a few words here will tell you about us and what we do.

Patrick Thorn & Co was established in 1991 with the combination of skills based on a mechanical engineering background and financial services.

The engineering skills that we brought to Patrick Thorn & Co, started back in the days of some of the first NC machines with paper tape control, this evolved to computer controlled machine tools (CNC) and the ability to drive them from CADCAM systems on large computers. Later and where we made the jump from "K-Curve" line driven CAM under MS-DOS was to become the UK distributors of the Macintosh based MGMStation, a complete graphical CAD & CAM system on a 9" MacPlus, that would drive 3 and 4 axis milling, turning and wireEDM systems. Complexed machining systems in 2, 3, 4 and 5 axis was where we excelled and as technology progressed and became more affordable the areas of cutting evolved from routers, milling machines and robots onto engravers, lasers and cutter plotters for packaging and signage.
April 2010, via recommendations of other suppliers, Artec-Group, appointed us as a UK distributor for their Artec 3D Scanners. Positioned to compliment the range of scanning solutions we offer to our customers, these are video based "white-light" systems that are very versatile and affordable, especially for sculptural and biomedical 3D forms.
